Background: Among the challenges for implementation of Waterborne public transportation (WPT) are difficulties in procuring efficient ferries tailored towards local requirements. Fundamental questions on ferry’s environmental impact, speed and procurement costs linger transport (PTP) mind. Objective: In this paper, a methodology adopting platform architecture is illustrated by modular design approach. Methods: For this, WPT operational profiles categorized three route types structure requirements including sustainability performance. Generic parameters size defined. Using these as skeletal structure, commuter ferry concept proposed set basic modules. As combination functionally independent modules, can be to fit Results: The paper proposes standard sizes waterborne craft shows that compatible with land-based terms energy efficiency speed. Suitable ranges mono hulls catamarans investigated idea rational explored type routes. Conclusions: concepts make more attractive PTPs sustainable option complement existing network.
